Team Nurture is the reception class at Blackawton Primary School and runs as part of the Foundation Stage Unit where we work closely with the Nursery – Team Playful. We are very lucky to have an onsite Nursery. Children have plenty of opportunities to meet the Team Nurture children so there is a seamless transition into school.
A typical day in Team Nurture?
Well there is never such a thing as a typical day in Class 1 as although we plan many different, interesting and engaging activities to help the children learn, we also follow the children's interests and support and challenge them to take their learning in all different directions. This may be indoors, outdoors or out on a trip in our local environment.
The children start the day with registration at 8.55.
Next it is phonics at 9.00 where the children systematically learn new sounds each day to support them in learning to read and write. The children then go out for their Daily Mile around the school's running track. The children then explore in the enabling environment that is set up with a range of challenges to support the children to learn through the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum - Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy - Reading and Writing, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
At 12 o'clock we go down to a healthy school lunch in the hall which is then followed by playtime with the rest of the school either on the field or in the bottom playground.
In the afternoon the children's learning continues with the topic focus.
The day finishes with stories and songs before children are collected from the bottom entrance at 3.15.
On a Wednesday afternoon, Class 1 go to Forest School. The children need wellies and waterproofs, warm clothes in the winter and sunhats in the summer.
On other days we use the hall for PE, dance and music and movement. In the summer we swim at least twice a week in our heated outdoor school pool.
Team Nurture join in with the rest of the school for Celebration Assembly, Singing Assembly and Open the Book.
