Information on the last day of term

Dear Parent/carer,

The Department for Education has this afternoon announced that it is seeking to minimise the burden of track and trace falling on schools over the Christmas period.

Public Health England has agreed that schools should not be expected to track and trace contacts after a period of six days has passed since children’s final day in school, December 23rd. The DfE suggests that schools use Friday 18th December as a training day as this will mean the 6-day track and trace period will expire on December 23rd, ensuring that leaders won’t be doing any track and trace from the 24th onwards. Schools will remain fully open up to this date.

Therefore, instead of term finishing for your child at 1.30pm on the 18th December, it will now finish at 3.20pm on Thursday 17th December.

Schools will be closed on the 18th to all children. School will re-open for your child on Monday 4th January 2021.

I know that some of you will not agree with this decision but I feel it is right that staff and children are able to have a proper break during the ‘relaxed lockdown phase’ of the Christmas holiday with their families. I am immensely proud of how hard staff have worked since the beginning of this uncertain period in March this year. I am pleased that the Department for Education has recognised this by making this small alteration.

I would like to thank you all for the many positive messages of support I and the heads of schools have received from parents and carers about the ways in which staff at ESW have risen to the current challenge

Yours faithfully,

Matthew SHANKS

Executive Principal and Chief Executive Officer
